Happy 21 Jovial
Shopping for Jovial's 21st bday present reminded me how hard it is to get a present for the occasion. You see amongst guys, it's just spending him dinner or liquor and that's sufficient.
However for girls, you'll have to take a different approach. Girls are more materialistic. So whatever you get them, it better be either :
1.) Expensive - so that they can showoff and brag to their friends, or
2.) Thoughtful - Something that represents your friendship/ that reminds her of you or vice verse.
Failing these 2 criteria, and they'll secretly emo against you.
So it's off to Amcorp Mall on my lunch break where I was hunting for a birthday present for someone who I actually haven’t met before.
It was tougher then I thought.
Firstly, I don’t even know if "Jovial" is her real name.
Second, I don’t even know what she likes. Those things she described in her blog are not appropriate for an affordable present. Cause a Porsche, "a rich husband" and "a fairy tale happy ending" were out of my budget. I can’t even afford those for myself.
Thirdly, it's even harder to get something for a platonic friend then a girlfriend without relaying a wrong msg. 95% of the stuff in the gift shop has either a Big heart or the words "I Love you". Those were the things to avoid when hunting a gift for a platonic friend including flowers, jewelry, cloths and lingerie. A friend suggested Scented Candles, but then another friend said that the recipient might think I'm trying to convey the message "You light up my life". That's so wrong.
So I ended up with some deco stuff and a keychain. Nothing subtle about that I guess... or rather I hope. The keychain was a contingency plan coz I was running out of ideas and I had to get back to office. When walking down, I saw another gift shop and saw a table-deco stuff that I assume has an element of cuteness without the lovely dovey factor in it.
Choose it cause it reminded me how "crazy" she is, that if humans started to develop superpowers, I'd named her "Madwoman".
So, Happy 21st birthday Jovial!!!
